Job DescriptionComponent Design Engineer Full time Solihull/HybridAn excellent opportunity has arisen for a Component Design Engineer to join our team in Rolls-Royce.The Electronics and Electrical team is seeking mechanical engineers to develop design solutions for hardware used within all areas of our diverse business. Our portfolio of products is broad - we cover electrical machines and structural components within Electronic Control Units and Power Electronics.The team supports programmes across the lifecycle, from research and technology to finding solutions to keep in service product operating. What you will be doing: In this exciting new role, you will have a chance to:•Generate and interpret design solutions for components and complex assemblies in 3D (CAD) •Evaluate and adapt designs taking into consideration safety, DfX, manufacturing capability, materials and processes, product physical form and functional robustness. •Generate and review 2D drawings, including applying knowledge of GD&T and other drafting principles.•Create technical documents to comply with process, knowledge management, information and data policies.•Manage product configuration including operating the design change process.•Ensure design solutions adhere to external and internal design standards and best practice.•Carry out analyses where appropriate, using analytical rules, tools and methods to underwrite the design solution against requirements. •Ensure delivery of work in line with priorities and contribute to project planning within a multi-disciplinary team. They are the fundamental qualities that we seek for all roles.•Degree-qualified in an Engineering discipline (e.g. BSc, MSc, MEng) or equivalent relevant experience. •Strong technical knowledge in mechanical design methodologies with an understanding of cross-discipline engineering concepts such as materials and processes, manufacturing engineering, cost engineering and structural analysis. •An ability to apply logical thinking to a range of technical problems and make balanced decisions based on.•Good communication and presentation skills and experience working with multi-disciplinary teams. •Experience in using Siemens NX (or equivalent CAD software), Teamcenter or other Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) suites. •Ideal but not essential, experience leading design activities and contributing to the development of junior engineers. •Ideal but not essential, experience of working within an agile management framework.•Ideal but not essential, experience of Lean Practices for developing improvements to methods and techniques. *To work for Rolls-Royce you may need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance for some roles. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don't currently already have this in place.
