Our Route
North West route runs from Cheshire in the south to Merseyside, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, and Cumbria in the North, with the two Northern Powerhouse cities of Liverpool and Manchester on the route, as well as the tourist destinations of Blackpool and the Lake District.
Major stations across the route include Crewe, Liverpool Lime Street, Manchester Victoria and Manchester Piccadilly.
The North West route is part of the North West and Central region.
We're a very busy region, with 1.3 million passengers travelling on our rails every weekday, and 700,000 tonnes of freight moved a week. With 571 stations in the North West & Central region, we make up a quarter of Britain's railway system.
Brief Description
What will you be doing?
Provide advice and support to the Infrastructure Maintenance Delivery team on all workforce health, safety and environmental issues. Promote a positive cultural and behavioural change in all aspects of workforce health, safety and environmental management.
Every day will be different, but you can expect to be involved in the following activities:
1. Provide support, coaching and guidance to the Infrastructure Maintenance Delivery team for issues of workforce health, safety and environment.
2. Provide support in the collation of workforce health, safety and environment data.
3. Monitor and analyse workforce health, safety and environment data for trends, produce reports and make recommendations for corrective actions.
4. Identify health, safety & environmental key risks and make recommendations for control measures.
5. Support the implementation of national and local programmes and initiatives to improve workforce health, safety and environmental control.
6. Facilitate the Infrastructure Maintenance Delivery team in their relationships via local safety forums/groups with Trade Union Safety Representatives and external safety and environmental bodies.
7. Provide guidance to the Infrastructure Maintenance Delivery Manager and team in the investigation and reporting of accidents and incidents and the Formal Investigation Process.
8. Facilitate arrangements for safety and environmental audits.
9. Coordinate and monitor safety tours and staff surveillance for the team.
10. Undertake a sample check each period of safe system of work plans to monitor compliance with the Safe System of Work Planning Arrangements. Take action to address issues as identified.
11. Take an active role in developing the Infrastructure Maintenance Delivery team in matters of workforce health, safety and the environment.
In order to be successful in this role, we would like you to have/to be:
* National Examination Board in Occupational Safety & Health (NEBOSH) Certificate
* Knowledge of safety and compliance management processes
* Knowledge of relevant standards and procedures
* Knowledge of environmental management system
* Knowledge of operational railway environment
* Analytical capability
* Local Accident & Incident Investigation
* Knowledge of coaching techniques
* Good interpersonal, influencing, communication and organisation skills
We would also like but it isn't crucial to have/to be:
* NEBOSH diploma
* Membership of a relevant professional body
* Institute of Environmental Management Award (IEMA)

• Salary: Band 4B starting at £35,582 and raising to £40,029.
