To manage Defence School of CIS (DSCIS) Virtual Learning Environments (VLE) classrooms in online platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Moodle. Supporting users and trainers in the day-to-day account creation and course enrolment. Working in an innovative and supportive team to bring great learning to service personnel. Helping the business understand the use and engagement through reports.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job Description
The primary function is to administer and control the Virtual Learning Environments. Managing virtual classrooms over a varied number of different platforms; Microsoft Teams, Moodle, NetSupport School, CISCO NetAcad, Defence Digital Skillsoft and others. Directly supporting the students and trainers. Provide reports of progress and engagement. Identify, develop and promote Technical Enhanced Technology (TEL) especially in Scaffolded Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL).
Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. The VLE Manager works to plan with colleagues to ensure the smooth transition of soldiers many of whom are young through their induction, foundation and trade training courses by preparing the online platforms, profiles and accounts. Guiding the trainees and trainers when they need help, such as resetting passwords or help navigating training when learning remotely.
Extensive use of Microsoft Office products such as Teams is made to provide collaborative learning areas in a virtual classroom. Channels need creating and user membership monitored and updated. Working with Course Coordinators, trainers and lecturers, content creators and students to provide a functional and accessible learning environment.
Account creation and enrolment in Moodle platforms which consist of our own VLE and the Defence Learning Environment (DLE) as well as other third-party resources and courses provided by CISCO Networking Academy, NetSupport School and the Defence Digital Skillsoft amongst others is a large part of the role.
Use prepared automatic processes to gather data and monitor activity to produce reports to inform and monitor the teaching effectiveness. Once in post the successful applicant is encouraged to increase skills or work towards qualifications in Microsoft Power platform products such as Power Bi and Power Automate.
Contribute to DSCIS learning development and the promotion of Technical Enhanced Learning (TEL) methods, media, and tools, providing advice to users and staff. Representing TEL learning capability at a local level and be part of TEL working groups.
