This is an excellent opportunity for Registered Nurses from a variety of backgrounds and experience to develop their career in working with children and families. You will have the opportunity to deliver the Healthy Child Programme with Health Visitors, to develop skills in public health and multi-agency working to support the health needs of the children and families.
We currently have a vacancy in our Eastern team for a Full time Staff Nurse. Our Public Health Nurse teams are innovative, enthusiastic and motivated to deliver the best healthy outcomes for children and families within Devon. Excellent peer-based support and supervision will be given while you develop your knowledge, skills and competence.
You should have evidence of recent professional development and an understanding of Community Practice and Public Health Issues. Job Purpose:
To support delivery of the Healthy Child Programme (HCP) 0-19 (DH 2010) thereby improving outcomes for children and families.
To contribute to the Public Health Agenda, meet Public Health targets and reduce health inequalities in partnership with key agencies meeting National agendas.
To promote the protection of children, adhering to the Local Safeguarding Children’s Board policies and procedures.
Main duties and responsibilities:
1. Participate in the assessment of health needs and formulation of care plans for children, young people, their families and communities.
2. In collaboration with the public health nursing team, identify individuals and groups within the community where collaborative working and advice would forward the interests of public health and promote healthy living.
3. Offers advice and support to children, young people and adults in accordance with evidence-based practice.
4. Support the delivery of key performance indicators by working collectively across wider geographical areas.
5. Under the direction of the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse Specialist, complete the Early Help Assessment (EHA).
6. Is aware of and complies with Devon County Council’s policies, protocols, guidelines and procedures.
7. Participates in the development and teaching of staff and students.
8. Takes responsibility for participating in regular, planned supervision and reflective practice.
9. Maintains and develops own professional expertise.
Person Specification
Experience
* Clear understanding of the needs of Children/Young People and their families.
* Knowledge of national and local strategies pertaining to Children and Young people and the public health agenda.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Proficient in assessment of health needs, evaluation and action planning.
* Experience of working with Public health activities.
* Experience of teaching or mentorship.
Qualifications
* RN or RMat degree level or professional equivalent with active NMC Registration.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
