Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide senior-level leadership and technical guidance to the Site Reliability Engineering team.
* Develop and execute a comprehensive technical strategy for ensuring high availability, scalability, and performance across GfK’s platforms, with a focus on the next-generation platform, GFKnewron.
Technical Expertise and Problem-Solving:
* Serve as the principal technical expert in all aspects of cloud engineering (especially Google Cloud Platform - GCP), container orchestration (Kubernetes), Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), GitOps practices, monitoring (Prometheus, Grafana), and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab).
* Be the go-to person for resolving complex technical challenges and providing innovative solutions to ensure system reliability and performance.
Team Leadership:
* Oversee and mentor team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
* Guide the implementation of best practices in site reliability engineering, ensuring that the team stays at the forefront of technological advancements.
Collaboration:
* Work closely with software engineering teams to design robust architectures, ensuring that new features and updates are delivered reliably and efficiently.
* Collaborate with external partners and vendors to optimize cloud services and infrastructure solutions.
* Drive the adoption of automation tools and practices (e.g., Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes) to streamline operations and reduce manual intervention.
* Explore and implement cutting-edge technologies that enhance system reliability and operational efficiency.
* Ensure comprehensive monitoring and logging solutions are in place for all systems, enabling proactive issue detection and resolution.
* Develop actionable alerts and dashboards using tools like Grafana to ensure fine-grained observability of the infrastructure.
Security and Compliance:
* Influence architectural decisions with a focus on security best practices, ensuring that all systems adhere to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
* Collaborate with security teams to identify and mitigate risks in the infrastructure.
Cost Management:
* Work with financial teams to optimize cloud resource usage and minimize operational costs without compromising performance or reliability.
Qualifications
* Minimum of 10+ years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, or related fields.
* Proven track record of leading and mentoring technical teams, demonstrating exceptional leadership skills.
Technical Expertise:
* Deep expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and other major cloud providers.
* Advanced knowledge of container orchestration systems like Kubernetes.
* Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
* Strong understanding of GitOps practices and tools, with experience using Flux or similar platforms.
* Expertise in monitoring and alerting systems (Prometheus, Grafana).
* Experience in setting up and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitLab.
Programming Skills:
* Proficiency in high-level programming languages such as Python, Go, or Ruby for scripting and automation tasks.
Leadership and Communication:
* Excellent leadership and mentoring abilities with a proven track record of guiding teams to meet business objectives.
* Strong communication skills to translate complex technical concepts into clear and actionable insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
