Our first home, KYN BICKLEY, opened in February 2023. KYN BICKLEY is an 86-bedroom home offering each resident an elegant and comfortable bedroom, communal areas for dining and reclining; and inviting outdoor terraces overlooking landscaped gardens bordered by woodland.
The Role
This role is ideal for an adaptable professional musician with experience of working with older people living with dementia, who is passionate about using music as a tool for enhancing the quality of life for older adults and who enjoys working in a caring, supportive environment.
This is a new role for KYN Bickley, although Live Music Now has provided musical residencies since the home has opened, the primary aim of which is to support residents living with dementia to improve their wellbeing. The post holder will also support the team to understand the benefits of music in dementia care and become more confident in its use, and will work to support the aims of the dementia strategy.
Responsibilities:
* Plan, set up and lead interactive and participatory group music making sessions
* Perform live music to enhance the wellbeing of residents, ensuring engagement and enjoyment
* Tailor performances and activities to the needs of residents, considering preferences, musical identities, cognitive abilities, health conditions and barriers faced
* Involve the residents in the development of the musical opportunities, activity and experiences available
* Introduce new musical experiences that develop and enhance their musical exposure
* Research and identify equipment that can be purchased to support music making activities
* Plan, set up and lead one-to-one music sessions for residents
* Adapt sessions for residents with specific needs (e.g., dementia, physical disabilities)
* Work closely with the care team to ensure music activities complement care plans
* Participate in care home events, special occasions, and themed weeks
* Maintain accurate records of music activities and resident feedback
* Ensure all performances and activities are conducted safely
* Comply with all KYN policies, standards, and toolkits
About You:
* You will have proven experience in music performance and therapeutic music practice
* A multi-instrumentalist with high proficiency in main instrument
* You will have experience leading participatory music activities for people living with dementia
* You will be skilled in leading both group and individual music activities
* You will be creative in designing engaging and meaningful music sessions
* You will have a passion for sharing your music and collaborating with others
* You will have experience in care or related settings
* You will have strong communication skills
* You will be a compassionate, empathetic, kind, and caring individual.
