A Consultant in Emergency Medicine is required to join the existing team of 14 Consultants at the North Manchester General Hospital. This appointment (10 PAs) will be made in accordance with the 2003 Consultant Contract Terms and Conditions. Consideration will be given to those requesting less than full time working or a job share arrangement.
The consultant team is currently made up of 12 EM consultants and 2 PEM consultants. The department sees over 117,000 patients per year, with approx 25% of these being children. We are a very highly performing ED being the best adult performing ED against the 4 hour patient safety standard and the best performing ED in England for NWAS handover.
The hospital serves an inner city community with high levels of deprivation and complex needs, with a diverse multicultural population. Whilst it is not a designated trauma unit, it does have walk in trauma, and there are opportunities for trauma work at the MTC at Manchester Royal Infirmary and Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.
The job is 10 PAs of which 7.5 DCC and 2.5 SPAs. The DCC can be worked flexibly within the team as we have an annualised self rostering arrangement. A formal job plan will be reviewed between the appointee and the Clinical Director, three months after the commencement date of the appointee. The exact timetable will be flexible, arranged in discussion with the appointee ensuring that it meets the needs of the appointee and service needs of the Division. The leadership team encourage variability of interests and flexibility to support individual circumstances. Job Plans will be approved by the Clinical Director.
The Job The Job Plan will then be reviewed at least annually. The Job Plan will be a prospective
agreement that sets out a consultant’s duties, responsibilities, and objectives for the coming year.
