We are now looking for a Lead Surveyor / Survey Manager to join our team in Edinburgh, Glasgow, or London.
About the Role
This appointment will be instrumental in developing a new service line for Thomas & Adamson, providing a great opportunity for an ambitious and motivated professional in the surveying market.
Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Surveyor to spearhead the development of a new department focusing on advanced survey technologies including laser surveys, point cloud surveys, drone-measured surveys, and time-lapse surveys. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in surveying with an understanding of business development, proposal/bid writing, and contract management.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Department Development:
o Lead the establishment and growth of the new survey department.
o Develop and implement strategic plans for the department.
o Oversee the acquisition/leasing and maintenance of survey equipment and technology.
2. Survey Operations:
o Manage and execute laser surveys, point cloud surveys, drone-measured surveys, and time-lapse surveys.
o Ensure all surveys are conducted to the highest standards of accuracy and quality, delivering outputs to LOD 200 – 500.
o Analyse and interpret survey data to produce detailed reports and deliverables.
3. Business Development and Proposal and Bid Writing:
o Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the surveying sector.
o Liaise with internal colleagues to identify cross-selling opportunities.
o Prepare and submit detailed proposals and bids for survey projects.
o Collaborate with the marketing team to create promotional materials and presentations.
4. Contract Management:
o Negotiate and manage contracts with clients and subcontractors/suppliers.
o Ensure compliance with all contractual obligations and industry regulations.
o Monitor project budgets and timelines to ensure successful project delivery.
5. Team Leadership:
o Recruit, train, and mentor a team of surveyors and support staff.
o Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
o Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback and development opportunities.
What do we need from you
* Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering or a related field.
* Professional certification (e.g., RICS, PLS) preferred.
* Minimum of 5 years' experience in surveying, focusing on laser and drone surveys.
* Proven experience in business development, proposal writing, and contract management.
* Strong technical skills in survey software and equipment.
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
* Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
