Job overview
Evaluate the requests, perform and report ultrasound examinations independently to Department Protocols and to be accountable for own professional actions including reporting.
Produce and interpret high-quality images of the body to diagnose and confirm normality and abnormality, injuries, and diseases.
Main duties of the job
Applicant needs to have completed a CASE accredited ultrasound course allowing them to perform and report obstetric ultrasound examinations as part of the Fetal Anomaly Screening Programme.
They will also participate in the non-obstetric ultrasound service within Radiology, as well as outlying clinics within the Trust for urgent surgical, gynaecological, and early pregnancy patients.
We are also offering a service within the community at Community Diagnostic Centres on a rotational basis. Covering a variety of sessions dependent on the individual's hours and to allow for extended days and a seven-day service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Supporting Clinical and Patient Excellence:
1. To produce high quality diagnostic ultrasound images.
2. To carry out procedures/examinations and prepare independent clinical reports for completed ultrasound scans, in line with department protocols.
3. To discuss the findings of the ultrasound examinations with patients where appropriate including fetal death or abnormality.
4. To independently refer patient on to other professionals and clinicians where appropriate.
5. To perform manual handling duties that will include lifting/moving patients, moving trolleys and chairs, moving/lifting equipment/other items following suitable manual handling training.
6. To be accountable for own professional actions and to act as a role model within the department, setting and maintaining high standards of professionalism and patient care and encouraging the development of a strong and flexible multi-disciplinary team.
7. Regularly helping to develop and draft changes to ultrasound protocols, ensuring best practice through evidence-based information.
8. Supervise Radiographers, student Radiographers, RDA’s and other staff groups including medical staff and midwives within the Ultrasound Department.

1. To participate in protocol and policy reviews
2. To participate in pre and post graduate training of qualified staff when appropriate.
3. To assist in training the multi-disciplinary team on imaging
4. To provide supervision to support staff as appropriate.
5. To promote a good working relationship with staff within and external to the Radiology department.

Person specification
Skills
* Ability to communicate ultrasound findings in a concise and clear manner, offering diagnosis or differential diagnosis, plus the ability to provide first line counselling in situations such as breaking bad news.
* High level of sonographic skill.
* Ability to wear PPE.
* Ability to move patients and equipment.
* Ability to contribute to the multidisciplinary education and training.
Knowledge and Experience
* Experience producing and interpreting images for obstetric and non-obstetric ultrasound examination.
* Experience producing and interpreting images for the Fetal Anomaly Screening Programme.
* Experience of first line counselling in situations such as breaking bad news.
* Experience of multidisciplinary team working.
* Experience in delivery of training to staff.
* Experience using PACS and RIS.
* Knowledge of other radiographic imaging modalities.
* Green or amber flag status in the latest DQASS cycle.
Education, Training and Qualifications
* Educated to Postgraduate level, PgD in Medical Ultrasound or equivalent level of education, training, or experience.
* HCPC registration.
