Obtain an accurate volume of blood to chemical ratios. Utilisation of appropriate blood bottles dependent upon tests required ensuring all necessary bloods are requested and sampled. Confident in the use and application of IT systems. Good keyboard skills as interaction with a electronic patient record system (SystmOne and ICE) is used to access, view and print patient blood test requests is required. To perform venepuncture on a variety of patient which may include high risk and pre-diagnosed infectious patients. Obtain patients lawful consent to perform an invasive procedure. Maintain Health, Safety and wellbeing of yourself and others. To achieve a high standard of practice using competencies within Phlebotomy. The safe and appropriate use and disposal of equipment and sharps. To liaise and communicate with doctors, nurses and other ward staff. To provide workload statistics and work towards target ranges on a day-to-day basis. Communicate information to patients of all ages, genders, sexual orientation, cultures or physical abilities in a none-discriminatory or judgmental manner, be able to overcome barriers of communication within these areas with appropriate support. Give patients, guardians and carers appropriate advice regarding the availability of test results. Carry out regular stock checks and stock rotation within phlebotomy clinical work areas.
