We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Railway Construction Estimator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing accurate cost estimations for railway construction projects, including infrastructure upgrades, new rail lines, and maintenance work. The Estimator will play a crucial role in the pre-construction phase, collaborating with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to ensure the financial viability and success of projects. Hybrid role onsite in Leeds with attractive package Key Responsibilities: Cost Estimation: Develop detailed cost estimates for railway construction projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs. Tender Preparation: Prepare and submit tenders and proposals for railway construction projects, ensuring all financial and technical aspects are accurately presented. Project Analysis: Analyze project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive cost breakdowns and pricing schedules. Risk Assessment: Identify potential project risks, delays, and challenges, providing mitigation strategies in cost projections. Vendor & Supplier Coordination: Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing and quotes for materials and services. Value Engineering: Work with project teams to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or safety standards. Client Engagement: Communicate with clients and stakeholders to clarify requirements, answer queries, and provide updates on project costs. Market Research: Stay updated on industry trends, material costs, and emerging technologies within the railway construction sector. Budget Monitoring: Support project teams during the construction phase by monitoring budgets, forecasting costs, and updating estimates as needed. Required Skills & Qualifications: Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience as an Estimator, preferably within the railway or civil engineering sectors. Knowledge of Rail Standards: Familiarity with Network Rail standards, rail infrastructure, and construction processes. Technical Skills: Proficient in estimating software (such as Candy, CostX, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite. Strong Analytical Skills: Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications, with a keen eye for detail. Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and confidently. Project Management Understanding: Knowledge of project management methodologies and how they relate to cost control and estimation. Certifications: Relevant qualifications in quantity surveying, civil engineering, or construction management are desirable. Flexibility: Ability to travel to project sites and client meetings as required. Desirable Attributes: Experience working on large-scale infrastructure projects. Chartered status (or working towards) with RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) or a similar professional body. Knowledge of the UK railway network and its regulatory environment
