Greensand Surgery is seeking an experienced health care assistant to join our friendly nursing team, on a part time basis for 16 hours per week. With previous experience in primary care, the ideal candidate will have completed a healthcare qualification or be working towards this. The role of the HCA is to support the practice nursing & administrative teams in the delivery of clinical & administrative services. The main responsibilities include: Venepuncture Undertake NHS health checks Collect specimens and urinalysis as directed Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature & pulse rate, recording findings accurately Facilitate routine & 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly Undertake wound care, dressings & other clinical tasks Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics Carry out BMI checks Act as a chaperone When trained, administer flu vaccinations When trained, carry out ear irrigation under the supervision of the practice nurse Carry out ECGs as requested Ensure specimens are recorded & ready for onward transportation Provide support during minor operations/implants/coil fits Smoking cessation Order stock Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas & sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisation’s IPC policy Deliver opportunistic health promotion First diabetic checks, when trained Please see full job description attached. About the Candidate If you are a qualified and experienced healthcare assistant looking for a fresh and exciting challenge, we would love to hear from you. You will have the following skills and qualifications: Essential: Successful completion of the Care Certificate, or willingness to undertake, as indicated by the CQC. Level 3/4 Diploma in Health and Social Care, or equivalent. Experience of working within a GP practice. Strong clinical skills. Confidence and competence in all HCA duties required for the post. Experience within primary care or another healthcare setting. Excellent patient-facing communication and interpersonal skills. Consistently confidential manner, as well as a compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues. Ability to work independently and determine own workload priorities, as well as working as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Strong organisational and time management skills.
