We are searching for a talented General Manager to provide engaging strategic leadership and hands-on direction to our Greater Manchester team.

We are searching for a talented General Manager to provide engaging strategic leadership and hands-on direction for Greater Manchester. You will inspire your team to strengthen operational delivery, find smarter ways of working, and improve performance. You’ll also foster strong internal and external stakeholder relationships and will have responsibility for a significant portion of the company’s profit and loss. You’ll shape our culture and further develop our reputation for innovation and agility.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide strategic and engaging leadership, and hands-on direction, to our depots across Greater Manchester.
* Engage front line colleagues through effective communication, active listening, and recognition.
* Ensure that the operational excellence policies and procedures are adopted within the garage.
* Management of the Greater Manchester operations team in accordance with Go North West policies, standard operating procedures, and all relevant legislation.
* Work with the training function to ensure that operational teams are competently trained, and to achieve agreed establishment requirements.
* Manage colleague performance, carry out job chats and catch-ups.
* Support the induction and development of an engaged, talented, and high-performing operations team, nurturing an innovative and continuous improvement culture.
* Conduct any disciplinary, grievance or absence management reviews in accordance with Go North West policies.
* Report on depot KPIs and attend regular company meetings.
* Liaise directly where appropriate with Transport for Greater Manchester on all aspects of service delivery and contract compliance.
* Maintain accurate records for all aspects of operational standards and performance, including maintenance of employee records.
* Self-motivated to achieve stretching targets as agreed with the Head of Operations.
* Oversee the allocation and movement of vehicles.
* Work alongside the performance team members, fostering excellent working relationships between drivers and supervisors to ensure a consistent customer experience.
* Improve operational performance in a sustainable manner, resulting in delivery of agreed key performance indicators.
* Local custodian and point of contact of escalation of faults, all on-time performance and other business systems.
* Ensure the site is always a safe and hygienic working environment for customers and contractors.
* Ensure collaboration between operational and engineering team members, fostering excellent working relationships between drivers and supervisors to ensure a consistent customer experience.
* Deliver agreed performance improvement plans and operational costs within budget.
* Act as a Nominated Transport Manager (NTM) for the business and for your site.
* Other duties commensurate with the role as may be deemed appropriate by the Head of Operations.
Key Safety Responsibilities
* Acting in a manner as to ensure the health, safety, welfare, environment and fire safety of yourself and others in the organisation, as well as any customers, clients, and visitors.
* Ensuring that you and any guests to any company premises understand emergency and evacuation arrangements.
* Ensuring your working environment is maintained in a safe and tidy condition.
* Acting proactively in identifying any unsafe practices or safety risks in the organisation and reporting these through the appropriate channels.
* Ensuring adherence to all relevant Go North West and Go-Ahead Group safety policies and procedures.
About You
* Previous management/senior management experience of operations in a highly unionised environment.
* Building and maintaining key internal and external stakeholder relationships.
* Well-developed communication, leadership, and relationship building skills.
* Computer literate with ability to use Microsoft Office to write reports and emails clearly and precisely.
* Excellent knowledge of relevant legislation, performance indicators, company procedures and agreements relating to people.
* Delivery of change and sustained high performance.
Pay: £50,000 - £60,000 per year (depending on experience)
