An opportunity has arisen in our product development team and we are looking for a Product Development Assistant to join us at our Craft Bakery where we develop and improve, make, bake and distribute, our much-loved Bettys products. As a Product Develeopment Assistant you will be responsible for the trialling and implementation of new and exciting catering, retail and bakery products and raw materials, taking an idea through the feasibility process to ensure it can be made within our Craft Bakery or by a third-party manufacturer. You will provide expertise between the development, production and Quality Assurance (QA) teams to ensure that all of our products and processes meet the relevant craft, commercial and efficiency requirements. This is a full-time role working 37.5 per week over 5 days. There will be a requirement, at times, to work unsociable hours when conducting feasibility trials. About you You’ll have practical experience of product development processes and an excellent understanding of the key requirements needed to develop a product from a new idea through to the finished product. You’ll enjoy working collaboratively and building strong working relationships with your colleagues, including the Bakery/production teams, our QA team, and our Packaging team, sharing your expertise and guidance where required. You’ll be able to work with external suppliers to source new equipment to enhance our craft skills and production efficiencies. You’ll be a great communicator and be able to provide precise feedback to your colleagues with regards to any recipes being developed, highlighting any concerns and providing information to your peers in a way which can be easily interpreted. You’ll have the ability to work to schedule, and follow processes and timelines, to ensure our products are delivered on time. You’ll have excellent knowledge of HACCP and food safety legislation. You’ll work with the Product Technologist (Patissier) and Bakery team and ensure that all production timing and labour requirements are logged and built into the costing model and collate test in practice reports on all new products. You’ll contribute during meetings, taking the lead where required. You’ll offering your insight and knowledge on the development of products and voice any concerns or queries relating to existing products. You’ll promote high standards, pay great attention to detail, and work well as both part of a team and individually.
