We require an enthusiastic and motivated staff nurse to join our team so we can provide an excellent service to our patients. Ideally you will have some experience of work within an ophthalmic setting and be proactive towards developing your ophthalmic skills; however, if you are a newly qualified nurse or do not have experience within this area, we will provide you with a full teaching package to support your development.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be an enthusiastic professional, with the passion and drive to provide the highest quality ophthalmic care to their patients. We work very closely with our medical team and all health care professionals, and this is a fantastic opportunity for a nurse who is dynamic, friendly, and thrives to provide an excellent standard of care.
The role will include being responsible for assessing, planning, and implementing specialist care and advice and will involve working in the day surgery unit and pre-operative assessment.
Applicants must be well organised with a proven ability to multitask, be professional, and have an approachable manner. Applicants should be able to use their own judgement to resolve issues and have a tactful, sensitive approach to managing often challenging situations.
Job responsibilities
The post holder will have the following responsibilities:
1. Assessment of care needs and the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care.
2. Ensure that agreed standards of nursing practice within the ward/department area are maintained.
3. To ensure that all Trust, Divisional, and Ward/Department Health & Safety Policies are adhered to.
4. To maintain personal contact with patients, other health care disciplines, relatives, and visitors.
5. To mentor and support new staff and student nurses.
6. To undertake appropriate enhanced roles, following the necessary training.
7. To ensure safe custody and administration of drugs, in accordance with Trust Policy.
Person Specification
Education and qualifications
* Registered General Nurse with NMC qualification
* PARE Mentorship, teaching and assessing qualification
Experience and knowledge
* 2 years nursing experience minimum in an acute hospital setting
* Experience of working in teams under appropriate supervision as part of the multi-disciplinary team
Skills, abilities and competencies
* Experience of working autonomously and within a multi-disciplinary team
* Insight into how to evaluate own strengths and development needs, seeking advice where appropriate
* Evidence of time management skills and ability to prioritise

Salary: £29,970 to £36,483 per annum pro rata
