Duties of the Head of MFL: Leading and managing the MFL department, ensuring a high standard of teaching and learning across all year groups. Developing and implementing an innovative, engaging, and challenging curriculum that meets the needs of all students. Monitoring and evaluating student progress, setting high expectations, and providing support to ensure achievement for all learners. Mentoring and developing a team of MFL teachers, promoting their professional growth and fostering a collaborative department culture. Leading extra-curricular activities and language-related events, including school trips and cultural exchanges, to broaden students' experiences and deepen their understanding of the languages they are learning. Collaborating with senior leadership and other departments to promote the importance of languages and intercultural understanding across the school. Driving the department’s performance in line with school improvement targets and providing regular updates to the senior leadership team. Requirements for the Head of MFL: A qualified and experienced teacher with a degree in a Modern Foreign Language (French, Spanish, German, etc.), and a recognized teaching qualification (QTS). Proven leadership experience within an MFL department, with a track record of driving academic success and creating a positive learning environment. Passionate about languages and committed to inspiring students to reach their potential and develop a lifelong love for language learning. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and support both students and staff. Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure. A proactive and innovative approach to curriculum development, incorporating modern teaching strategies and technology to enhance language learning.
