Job overview
Under the guidance of a registered Occupational Therapist (OT) and Ward Manager, you will assist in the delivery of recreational activities within the service. Activities will be delivered one to one and through group work and may include creative, social, and physical activities, primarily in the ward environment. Flexibility is required as you will also work early evenings and weekends.
Experience in mental health and strong problem-solving, communication, and organisational skills are essential. You will be instrumental in ensuring the service provides therapeutic benefits through meaningful activity and positive engagement.
Main duties of the job
• Liaise with the ward MDT and therapies team in planning recreational activities.
• Lead recreational activities, working with groups and individuals.
• Prepare craft and other appropriate equipment before patient arrival.
• Maintain stocks of supplies for activities, informing the ward manager of shortages.
• Develop rapport with patients to encourage their interests and involvement in activities.
• Be aware of individual patients’ needs through communication with Occupational Therapy and the ward MDT.
• Liaise with the wider multi-disciplinary team to encourage collaboration with the therapeutic timetable.
• Identify opportunities to add volunteers to the group programme and support them.
• Observe patients' behavior and responses to activities.
• Report any concerns to qualified staff immediately.
• Respect patients' choices and confidentiality.
• Record interventions in an agreed format.
• Perform any other tasks delegated by qualified staff as appropriate to grade and experience.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Administration:
• Be computer literate.
• Complete necessary case notes.
• Report faulty equipment to qualified staff.
• Maintain clean and tidy work areas.
Profession Specific Duties:
• Attend professional Occupational Therapy meetings as required.
• Attend ward MDT meetings as required.
• Undertake annual appraisal and contribute to the supervision process.
• Comply with policies for annual leave, sickness, and time owing.
• Perform other duties as delegated by your Director or Chief Executive.
