This is an external vacancy and is not employment with East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
A lady in her 70s has Parkinson’s Disease and Dementia. Her physical and mental health can fluctuate on an hourly/daily basis. Most of the time, she will say that she requires no help and can manage herself, but generally this is not the case. The lady lives with her husband, who has his own health problems but does not require support.
We require someone to supervise her in the shower, wash her hair when required, help her get out of bed if she is not already up when the carer arrives, and support her with getting dressed and picking suitable clothing according to the weather conditions. The carer may also be required to empty the commode, make a cup of tea, prepare a general breakfast, and make a sandwich to put aside for lunch.
The person must be reliable with timekeeping, trustworthy, friendly, and able to engage in good conversation.
A genuine occupational requirement for a female worker exists for this post under the Equality Act 2010 due to privacy and decency.
DBS/Reference checks will be required for this post, with the cost to be met by the local authority.
