The Energy Data Analyst is responsible for managing, validating, and analysing meter reading data to ensure accurate billing and reporting for gas supplies. This role involves reviewing meter read data, investigating discrepancies, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and collaborating with other departments to support a seamless billing cycle.
What You Will Do
In the role of Energy Data Analyst, you must be able to make decisions autonomously that hold a financial, commercial and reputational impact. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of data management processes in the energy sector.
1. Meter Data Validation and Analysis: Perform validations of meter read data to ensure accuracy and reliability for billing and compliance. Identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies in meter readings, ensuring data integrity in the billing system.
2. Exception Handling and Root Cause Analysis: Identify and resolve exceptions related to meter reads, such as estimated reads, incorrect data entries, or missing data. Conduct root cause analysis on recurring data issues, document findings, and recommend corrective actions to improve data accuracy.
3. Data Reconciliation and Accuracy Maintenance: Reconcile meter read data with historical usage patterns and ensure consistency across customer accounts (AQ appeal process and Shipper Agreed Read). Work with Meter Asset Managers (MAM) or meter reading agencies to verify and correct meter readings as needed.
4. Industry Performance: Ensure meter read data processes adhere to industry regulations and company policies. Support audits and compliance reviews by preparing necessary documentation and ensuring data is accurate and accessible.
5. Compliance: Be aware of and comply with all company policies and procedures, including but not limited to the Group/Company Data Protection policy, Equal Opportunities policy, and the Email and Internet Acceptable Usage Policy, in addition to Fire and Health and Safety Regulations.
What You Will Bring
Previous experience in billing or data analysis in the energy industry or other regulated industry would be beneficial.
1. Technical: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, and advanced formulas. Familiarity with SQL or other data querying tools is advantageous.
2. Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret data, identify trends, and provide actionable insights. Ability to manage and analyse large datasets with attention to detail.
3. Communication: Effective communication skills to interact with team members, management, and customers, with the ability to explain industry-specific concepts to all stakeholders in an accessible way.
