We are looking to recruit a Health Care Assistants/ Housekeeper. We have a 24 hour per week position available. The working patterns are based over a 7 day week, working an internal rotation.
The post holder will be responsible for providing a range of personal care for babies, parents and relatives and a range of clinical duties under the guidance of a registered healthcare professional. As part of the Unit team responsible for the coordination of all the facilities in the ward area to ensure a clean, safe and comfortable environment is maintained as determined by the Lead Nurse and/or Shift Leader.
The post holder will work independently performing several clinical duties/tasks following training and meeting competencies within role as per policy and procedure.
The post holder will ensure cleaning, catering, linen, and minor maintenance standards meet the individual patient’s needs. They will need to report promptly to the person in charge of the department any deficiencies so that appropriate action can be taken.
The role will initially be offered as a Band 2 position. On completion of the NVQ Level 3 in Healthcare, the North West Neonatal Operational Delivery Network nonclinical support worker course and clinical competencies set out by the your line manager you will progress to the Band 3 role.
Main duties of the job
Working under the direction of the shift leader, participate in the clinical care provided to babies prioritising workload appropriately and developing competencies that safeguard practice and effectiveness in role.
1. Have proficient attitudes and behaviours compatible with NHS and Trust Values
2. Work as part of a designated clinical and care team delivering care that focuses on the direct needs of the individual
3. Assist babies with personal hygiene
4. Support Moving and Handling, use of mobility aids, correct babies positioning, assess pressure areas and skin integrity
5. Developing positive relationships with parents, families, and carers
6. Be aware of the babies’ needs – emotional, social, physical, and cultural. Respect privacy, dignity and beliefs. Acts in a way that supports equality and diversity value
7. Work as part of the team in a co-operative, professional and constructive manner
8. Be actively involved in health promotion such as: Smoking cessation, Infant feeding choices

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
21. Evidence of basic level qualification in English and Maths or able to demonstrate equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
22. NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in healthcare
23. NWNODN nonclinical support worker course or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria
24. Comprehensive post training experience
25. Demonstrates awareness of what neonatal care involves
26. Experience of working with babies under 3 months of age
27. Willingness to undertake further study and development
28. Work experience within the role of housekeeper or similar appropriate post
Desirable criteria
29. Previous experience on a neonatal unit
30. Experience of caring for newborn babies
31. Previous experience of team working
Skills
Essential criteria
32. Basic IT, written and verbal communication skills
33. Able to manage and prioritise work load without direct supervision
34. Basic level of decision making autonomy
35. Ability to recognise limits to own knowledge and skills and take steps to seek help
36. Teaching skills in parentcraft and health education
37. Able to communicate effectively and sensitively with parents and the multidisciplinary team.
38. Ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues across health and social care settings

39. Evidence base for current NNU practice
40. Knowledge of current issues impacting on Neonatal care.
41. Awareness of the Quality Improvement programmes within Neonatal Services
42. Able to recognise potentially stressful situations and help deal with appropriately
43. Ability to work within multidisciplinary team

44. Speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role, i.e. with confidence and accuracy, using correct sentence structures and vocabulary, and without hesitation
45. Willingness to work across paediatric wards if required
