Location: Office Base is London Television Centre. This is a hybrid role and the successful candidate will balance office working with home working.

THE ROLE
Reporting into the Chief Communications & Marketing Officer and with a dotted line into Director of Internal Communications & Engagement for BBC Group, you will be responsible for telling the story of BBC Studios, building and maintaining its corporate reputation, both externally (through media relations, industry speaker events and stakeholder affairs) across broad areas, and internally, ensuring we are effectively engaging our teams in our strategies and our winning moments, helping to build a strong culture within BBC Studios.
You’ll also work closely with colleagues within BBC Group, collaborating on internal communications campaigns and activity that are pertinent to all employees. You’ll act as a key communications adviser to senior Executives and line manage a team, delegating day-to-day task management (as appropriate).
Key Responsibilities
* Set and be accountable for delivery of communication strategies relating to BBC Studios as a business which help to promote its reputation as THE home of the world’s most powerful stories.
* Ensure that external and internal narratives and storytelling (using the BBC Studios Mother Story as a basis) are aligned and mutually enhancing – ie using external comms moments to drive internal pride and engagement, using internal/staff stories which show our achievements to drive external reputation.
* Provide strategic, practical and creative direction and managerial leadership to senior leaders across the business, advising and assisting relevant stakeholders and senior management as appropriate.
* Lead and directly manage the team, to ensure strong performance. Manage, motivate, encourage and develop a professional and multi-disciplined team, ensuring staff are motivated through objectives which are set and assessed on a regular basis and which support the departmental goals and objectives.
* Support BBC Studios transformation programmes to make the chase for change and understanding and buy-in for key programmes across the business.
* Develop internal communication and engagement strategies in response to the BBC survey.
* Collaboration on and implementation of shared BBC Group-wide activity where required (ie around the BBC Charter activity).
* Act as a key point of contact for colleagues within the broader BBC organization, including the Corporate Affairs Team and Internal Communications teams to ensure alignment and shared planning where appropriate.
* Provide reputation and issues management for BBC Studios across a broad area including, where relevant, handling issues outside their own area; working in close conjunction with other senior leaders within the BBC.
* Represent the BBC's interests at a senior level amongst internal and external stakeholders; may represent Communications on a relevant board or group.
* Act as a key point of referral within the team for sensitive or difficult enquiries.
* Responsible for the day-to-day management of the allocated budget within established and agreed guidelines.
* Ensure systems are in place to evaluate impact of work and distribute best practice and lessons to learn.
* Support the running of social media channels and assist with the production of assets for use online and in social media.
WHAT DOES IT TAKE?
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
* Proven record gained at a senior level in their relevant profession which needs to include relevant external comms experience including media management, issues management as well as internal comms experience.
* Strong evidence of creative achievement, with ideas and the ability to think laterally, finding pragmatic and creative solutions to issues.
* Record of success in leading and motivating a team, using resources effectively with limited financial and other resources.
* Excellent professional judgment and ability to identify and address emerging issues.
* A high level of interpersonal skills.
* A wide network of contacts, media and other key influencers.
* High level of proven experience understanding of current marketing and communications thinking, practice and techniques, including audience research and social media.
* Strong IT skills, with the ability to adapt to new IT systems.
