Job Description
Lead and head practices associated to health and safety to ensure the business consistently provides comprehensive occupational health, safety, and environmental support, guidance, advice, and training. Ensure strict compliance with company policies and relevant health and safety standards and legislation. The successful candidate will drive and lead the implementation of the health and safety strategy, focusing on cultivating a culture of interdependence through safety behaviours and attitudes at all levels of the organisation.
* Ensure best practices are implemented and shared across the site
* Influence, coach, and support business leaders and their teams with safety leadership, environmental leadership, and cultural transformation across the site.
* Provide technical advice and keep the site management team updated on health and safety issues, developments, and compliance with objectives, targets, and action plans.
* Liaise with all departments to address health and safety issues and determine necessary actions to meet required standards.
* Coach and train employees on key health and safety best practices.
* Investigate accidents and serious incidents, implement corrective actions, and handle incident documentation and communication.
* Represent the site at Health & Safety Meetings and act as the main contact with external authorities.
* Ensure legal compliance in all aspects
* Offer advice and guidance on policies, procedures, and legal regulations.
* Conduct proactive health and safety inspections, audits, and tours to identify and mitigate risks.
* Develop and manage action plans, strategies, and targets for continuous improvement.
* Contribute to health and safety training plans, identify training needs, and participate in delivery.
* Assess process equipment and machinery for safety and compliance.
* Promote and administer regular H&S Committee meetings to engage staff in improvement activities.
* Manage data through the company's IT safety system (Assure) and ensure accurate metrics.
* Liaise with external bodies, regulators, and agencies (e.g., health and safety, Environment Agency, local authorities, emergency services).
* Promote best practices in Health & Safety and Environmental matters.
* Perform additional duties as required by the Site Director.
Qualifications
* NEBOSH General Certificate.
* IOSH Membership - Technical Level
* General knowledge and work experience within functional area (2-7 years)
* At least 2 years’ experience working in a dedicated H&S role
Experience
* Managing specific site risks such as asbestos, construction, COSHH, Legionella, fire, LOLER and energy services
* Carrying out safety inspections and behavioural audits
* Ensuring environmental compliance with regards to waste, energy, discharges, emissions etc on site
* Managing occupational health screening/surveillance programs
* In depth knowledge of UK HS&E legislation
* Accident, incident & near miss investigation techniques
* Outlining safe operational procedures which identify and consider all relevant hazards and risk mitigation
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and ERP systems
