Mechanical Design Engineer - Precision Engineering in Manufacturing

We're recruiting on behalf of a leading manufacturer based in Basingstoke, known for their innovative products and precision-engineered solutions. This is a fantastic opportunity for a driven Mechanical Design Engineer to join a forward-thinking engineering team, supporting the design and development of bespoke machinery and components used across high-performance manufacturing environments.
What You'll Be Doing:
1. Designing mechanical components, assemblies, and special-purpose machinery
2. Producing detailed CAD drawings, 3D models, and technical documentation (SolidWorks/Inventor)
3. Supporting prototyping, testing, and development processes
4. Working cross-functionally with production, quality, and R&D teams
5. Ensuring all designs are optimised for manufacture, cost-effectiveness, and quality
6. Complying with relevant health & safety, engineering, and manufacturing standards
What We're Looking For:
1. Degree/HND in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
2. 3+ years' experience in mechanical design within a manufacturing or industrial setting
3. Proficient in CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, or equivalent)
4. Good understanding of materials, tolerances, GD&T, and engineering drawings
5. Experience designing for CNC, sheet metal, machined, or injection moulded components
Nice to Have:
1. Exposure to automated systems or special-purpose machinery
2. Familiarity with lean manufacturing or Six Sigma principles
3. Knowledge of FEA tools or hands-on prototyping
4. Experience with ISO, CE marking, or other industry regulations
