To provide a comprehensive support service to consultants and supporting teams within the designated specialty area. To work collaboratively with other medical secretarial colleagues to ensure clinical correspondence is produced and distributed within acceptable timescales. The post holder will carry out his/her duties in such a way as to make a direct and positive contribution to the organisation of the work. It is essential that the post holder should exercise initiative commensurate with the role and that confidentiality be maintained at all times.
To prioritise workload independently, identifying urgency, highlighting problems and taking appropriate action to prevent or solve problems without supervision.
In the absence of the Medical Secretary, participate in the outpatient booking process by coordinating clinic capacity and liaising with relevant departments. Dealing with cancellations to ensure full utilisation of available clinic slots to ensure adherence to National and Trust waiting times.
The post holder will provide administrative and clerical support to the rheumatology department. They will be responsible for processing referrals into the service, maintaining waiting lists, patient databases and coordinating communication between MDT members, patients and GPs.
The successful candidate will be required to contribute to the development of an expanding service by demonstrating a commitment, enthusiasm and passion for the delivery of high quality, patient focused care.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are necessary as the post holder will be expected to liaise and work closely with clinicians and other healthcare professionals from both primary and secondary care environments.
The post holder will be expected to work with the team to ensure that the pathways run effectively and meet local and national targets. They must communicate sensitively and effectively to patients and organise their own workload to ensure timescales are met and urgent work is prioritised.
The ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team is necessary to ensure seamless, comprehensive care is provided for our neurology patients.
The post holder should be flexible as service requirements may fluctuate.
