We are looking for enthusiastic, experienced Pharmacy assistants with a flexible working approach to deliver a high-quality patient-focused Pharmacy service.
You must be able to demonstrate good communication and organisational skills, working independently and as part of a team. Providing mentoring and training to junior staff, you will provide a leading role within the team. The job is a busy and physically demanding role, and you will be expected to work to deadlines. You will also be involved in maintaining the Pharmacy Service to wards and departments on a rotational basis.
Dispensary, Stores and Distribution Teams
You will be required to work as part of our main dispensary team, delivering a high-quality dispensing service.
Within the Stores area you will ensure the safe and secure receipt and storage of medicines.
Within the Distribution area you will contribute to effective stock management at ward level by working within the topping up and distribution services.
Job Responsibilities
1. To interpret and accurately dispense prescriptions and requests for medication.
2. To participate in stock supply to wards and departments and re-order as necessary.
3. To receive goods into the department, unpack, check and put away deliveries against relevant paperwork.
4. To participate in the induction and training of staff.
There will be a requirement to participate in extended hours; including weekend working, bank holidays and late nights on a rotational basis.
Qualifications
1. Be educated to secondary school level and hold GCSE or equivalent (Grade C/4 or above) in Math's and English.
2. Hold an NVQ level 2 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent (this must include the dispensing module).
Experience and Knowledge
1. Post NVQ level 2 qualification (or equivalent) developmental experience of a range of dispensing with formal training and annual revalidated accreditation as a dispenser.
2. Understanding of dispensing, stock control and supply systems and processes.
Skills and Ability
1. Good verbal and written communication skills.
2. Be able to keep accurate records.
3. Works to protocols and procedures.

Person Specification
Qualifications
1. GCSE grade C/4 or above in Mathematics and English (or equivalent).
2. NVQ level 2 Certificate in Pharmacy Service Skills (QCF), BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent.
Experience
1. Post NVQ level 2 qualification developmental experience of a range of dispensing with formal training and annual revalidated accreditation as a dispenser.
2. Understanding of pharmacy related computer systems.
3. Understanding of Health and Safety at Work, manual handling and COSHH.
4. Previous experience within a Hospital Pharmacy setting.
Additional Criteria
1. Able to reflect on own practice and learn from experience.
2. Able to communicate complex information verbally, written and electronically as required.
3. Demonstrates ability to work independently and maintain accuracy under pressure.
4. Good time management.
5. Able to lift moderate weights (up to 15kg).
