Description Summary and purpose of position: We are looking for a Yard Controller to join our team at the Wincanton Sainsbury site in Waltham Abbey. You will be responsible for the control and co-ordination of the movement of all trailers and fleet around the site, to meet transport KPI’s and to deliver great service to stores. Hours are: 4 on 4 off rotating shift pattern - start times including 18:30 and 06:30. Duties and responsibilities: Controls and co-ordinates up to 600 per shift trailer and fleet movements on site, ensuring equipment and colleagues are fully optimised. Responsible for managing up to 8 shunters movements and tasks, communicating via radio and using relevant systems. Receives and collects a variety of information and uses this to make informed decisions regarding tasks, ensuring these are correctly prioritised. Co-ordinates fleet availability and suitability for purpose to support the delivery of the loading programme, ensuring that dock availability and turnaround time is maximised. Responsible for the safety, health and environment standards relating to the fleet, including correct trailer temperature co-ordination. Ensures co-ordination of legal compliance requirements, e.g. vehicle servicing. Responsible for inputting accurate and timely information into the Yard system to support decisions and provide good communication, including fleet audits. Makes timely and accurate decisions regarding the servicing/MOT schedule for all fleet and ensures this is entered correctly into the Yard system & followed through to completion. Communicates relentlessly, effectively and efficiently with all relevant departments and provides accurate information, including transport, loading, security, VMU, RRU, etc Makes decisions regarding trailer wash to make sure that high standards of presentation and safety are maintained for the trailer fleet whilst balancing customer requirements. Provides a comprehensive and accurate Shift Handover, highlighting all important issues that may affect Store service. Is able to identify issues that may impact KPI’s or safety and identify appropriate action, including correct escalation. Reviews performance information and highlights opportunities to improve, agreeing a plan of action with the Shift Manager. Supports local activity to make the transport team a great place to work. Experience, Skills, and Attributes: Experience within a similar role. PC literate. Good written and verbal communication skills. Good organisational skills. Ability to work under own initiative. Able to work under pressure. High level of attention to detail. Ability to make effective prioritisation decisions, when faced with conflicting priorities. What do we offer?
