This is an opportunity to join Cancer Research UK’s Assurance department which is essential to our Sustain Strategy and brings together several teams: Safeguarding, Fundraising Compliance, Health & Safety, and Retail Profit Protection & Compliance. The purpose of Assurance is to champion compliance and protect the charity by ensuring that regulatory & legislative requirements are met and understood across our 600+ shops, 2,500+ office staff, and c.2 million fundraisers which enables us to be an inclusive, sustainable, and agile organisation.
A key part of our strategy is to improve our processes, tools, ways of working, and governance so that our staff have the right tools and skills they need to do their best work, and the charity is as cost-effective and well-run as we can be. Currently, there is a lack of data to inform the strategic direction of the Assurance department and manage risks across the organisation. Therefore, we’re searching for a Risk & Assurance Analytics Manager to help us by building, maintaining, and overseeing the critical data reporting and analysis requirements within the Assurance team and to develop and implement a coordinated data strategy in partnership with the General Counsel and Company Secretariat function. In this role you will partner with stakeholders both across the Assurance team and wider organisation to translate complex data to drive insights, strategic thinking, practical solutions, and tangible action; ultimately helping us more proactively understand and better manage risk to safeguard the charity.
This is a newly created role for you to shape, meaning you’ll have the opportunity to drive and influence how we deliver this change and its scope. If you are an experienced Analytics professional in a large organisation who has built Power BI reports and the creativity to create and improve reporting processes & systems, we would love for you to join our mission.
What will I be doing?
Setting up the foundations for and owning Risk & Assurance Analytics by translating complex data into actionable insights and analysis. This role will focus on two key areas:
1: Developing, delivering, and maintaining data reporting and analysis requirements within the Assurance department:
* Partnering with teams across the Assurance department (i.e., Safeguarding, Fundraising Compliance, Health & Safety, and Profit Protection & Compliance teams) to proactively understand and manage risk.
* Leading on the design and development of automated data reporting to create a holistic overview of Assurance and inform decision making.
* Analysing, owning, and shaping large datasets across retail, incident reports, assurance, risk, legal, and compliance to identify trends, exceptions, key insights, and demonstrate performance against indicators.
* Ensuring that source data and reporting outputs are validated and accurate.
* Using analysis to format, produce, and present accessible data dashboards, graphs, charts, and visualisations appropriate to the audience.
* Using analysis to tell a story that provides assurance or helps to improve risk management and compliance.
* Making decisions and recommendations to leadership and escalating where appropriate.
* Providing written and verbal reports to the Head of Assurance and other stakeholders (e.g., Leadership, Trustees, monthly people operational risk committee etc).
* Using future-based thinking to proactively innovate and develop new approaches for data manipulation, analysis, and reporting to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our risk management.
* Partnering within the General Counsel and Company Secretariat department to develop and implement a coordinated data strategy.
* Undertaking other tasks as necessary to contribute to the success of the Assurance team, the objectives of the General Counsel and Company Secretariat function, and Cancer Research UK’s strategy.
2: Setting up reporting processes for Retail Profit Protection & Compliance:
* Developing and implementing data for stock management systems and counting processes for the annual accounts.
* Sourcing and manipulating large / complex datasets for transactions and stock management across 600+ stores.
* Identifying exceptions and trends while enabling effective and efficient completion of periodic Stock Take and Perpetual Inventory activities.
o This will include setting up counts and reporting on any Stock Loss Variances.
* Managing and enhancing the Retail Audit Tracker by:
o Collating site compliance visit reports and data.
o Recording and monitoring the completion of outstanding actions.
o Providing reporting on key metrics.
* Monitoring and collating incident reporting ensuring to escalate concerns and allocate incident investigations to the relevant stakeholders.
What skills will I need?
* Experienced Analytics professional with a background working in large, complex organisations (we’re open to applicants from different industries e.g., Risk & Compliance, HR, Retail, and Charities etc).
* Demonstrable experience using quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques to identify and present trends and make recommendations.
* Has built Power BI reports from scratch with experience using various systems to execute data extraction, mining, and reporting.
* Strong prioritisation and organisations skills with the ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks and delivering to deadlines with strong attention to detail.
* Continual drive and creativity to build and improve processes & systems.
* Has built credible and collaborative stakeholder relationships with experience influencing at all levels (including leadership) and excellent verbal and written communication.
* Comfortable working as part of a virtual/ hybrid team.
* Highly proficient with MS office suite (including Power BI).
o Experience working with Retail Transactional and Stock Management systems would be advantageous but is not essential, meaning we welcome applicants without this experience.
