Senior Specialist - Engineering/Machinery

What we're looking for
We are currently looking for a qualified candidate to join our Technical Support Office (TSO) team. The roles invloves providing a world-wide, plan approval service to shipbuilders, ship owners and manufacturers. The purpose of this role is to carry out plan approval of maritime machinery components (i.e marine engines, steer gears, windlasses, winches and etc.), and machinery dynamics (i.e. Torsional-, Axial-, Lateral Vibrations, Shaft Alignment and Resilient Mounted Machinery) in accordance with the applicable international standards, class rules, using procedures, experience and knowledge appropriate for the design appraisal of plans for the above-mentioned aspects for new building marine equipment and components/conversion/in service vessels.
A portion of the responsibilities may involve work on Naval Ships and with respect to the required security levels the right applicant will preferably hold or must be able to achieve UK SC security clearance

The Role :
-Carry out plan approval of machinery components and machinery dynamics in accordance with appropriate Lloyd's Register Rules & Regulations, Statutory Regulations and International Standards.
-Monitor revisions to Statutory, Rule and Flag requirement and apply these revisions as appropriate;
-To build and maintain a good relationship with our clients and internal stakeholders;
-Provide technical advice to internal and external clients.
-To discuss and present the deliverable with the internal / external client and be able to suggest solutions where appropriate.
-Undertake project management where applicable including monitoring project progress and spend against budget and contract requirement;
-Coaching of less experienced colleagues and act as a mentor to colleagues as agreed with line manager
What you bring
-Bachelor or Master degree in Mechanical/ Marine Engineering/ Material or equivalent; and preferably Chartered/Professional qualification and a member of a relevant professional institution;
-Over 10 years of experience in offshore or marine machinery & engineering system design (or appraisal); from Yard, Class, Ship owner, Designers, Manufactures etc.
-Necessary experience/knowledge in the area of marine engineering with particular emphasis on one or more of the following are required: Piping Systems and piping components, Machinery components, Pressure equipment and Plastic pipes, plastic materials or rubber.
-Knowledge of Quality Assurance systems is preferred.
-Have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, to prioritise work and meet LR and Clients' deadlines, and to work effectively under pressure.
-Good skill to maintain relationship with client with client focus mind-set;
-Proficiency in the English Language commensurate with the work and to demonstrate effective interpersonal skills.
