The Operational Security Team within Home Office Security is responsible for ensuring robust physical security solutions are in place to protect Home Office buildings, staff, and assets. Furthermore, we are responsible for Home Office building receptions across the country, public caller units and reporting centres, of which we supply trained security teams to manage these areas. We monitor the electronic security access systems and manage a large, dedicated national Home Office Security Control Room.

We are recruiting 1 x SGB1 (AO) Operational Security Supervisor to work within the Physical Security Team. The successful candidate will form part of the security team and be responsible for overseeing the daily running of security on site, situated at Old Park Barracks one of the sites within the Dover area. However, all staff within the security team must be prepared to attend other sites within the region to assist with covering sickness or leave, as and when directed.
This is an important and varied role which has a considerable effect on the day-to-day operation of the Kent Region and wider business objective. There are a high degree of “reactive” tasks associated with the post, therefore flexibility and prioritising are key requirements.
This is a diverse and exciting role, with which, full training will be provided, along with mentoring ensuring you’re fully supported within the role.
You should be proactive with the ability to work in a fast-paced and at times highly pressured environment. Hold strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to build relationships with colleagues at every level within the organisation.
An Operational Security Supervisor is required to have good organisational skills, and the ability to maintain effective administrative processes, have good written and verbal communication skills with an eye for detail.
You will need to have a positive approach to customer service with strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to build effective relationships with colleagues within an organisation.
This role attracts an AHW yearly variable contract dependent on business needs. The allowances are for any range of the following reasons, shift working, flexibility expectations, weekend, night work and bank holiday working premiums. As they are contracted accordingly to business needs these may change yearly. They average around 35% to 42%.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist and provide guidance to all customers, staff, and internal / external stakeholders, promoting a positive and professional working relationship that proactively contributes to the work of the team and aids business delivery.
* Conduct random bag and vehicle screenings on staff, visitor/contractor in accordance with policy.
* Monitor alarm & CCTV systems.
* Provide support and guidance if required to colleagues within the team.
* Enable the business to function in a safe and secure manner and in accordance with policy and guidance.
* Deal appropriately with any non-compliant individuals, in a polite and professional manner, assisting colleagues if required and escalating to Security Management when required.
* Complete and ensure regular and varied foot patrols are completed in line with directive.
Working Pattern
Due to the business requirements of this role, it is only available on a full-time basis.
The flexible working arrangement of Hybrid working (working partly in their workplace(s) and partly at home) is not available for this role due to the requirements of the role. Successful candidates will be required to attend the office/other work location as specified in the advert at all times to carry out this role.
Training
Successful candidates will also need to achieve a Security Industry Authority licence, training will be given as this is a requirement for the role.
Travel
The post holders may be required to visit all Home Office buildings within the Kent Estate to assist in the managing of the Kent Region (sites are currently located within Folkestone & Dover) regularly or when directed.
The current building location for this role is Dover.
