Main duties of the job
To support the Gastroenterologists and Colorectal Consultants to deliver alternative investigations to conventional endoscopy and Colon Capsule endoscopy.
The postholder will have responsibility for high quality safe and effective patient care, delivering capsule endoscopy services within the Gastroenterology / Endoscopy services, in accordance with departmental and national guidelines.
To vet referrals for appropriateness for designated procedure.
To escalate any inappropriate referrals to referring clinician or seek advice from Colorectal/Gastroenterologist Consultants.
To assess patients by obtaining clinical history and assessing suitability for bespoke investigations, including giving specific advice about diabetes and anticoagulant management.
To obtain Trust written consent for diagnostic procedures and for research studies.
To perform diagnostic tests (CE) including setting up equipment.
To monitor results from Capsule endoscopy and escalate anomalies to senior team members.
To interpret and communicate results of investigations to patients, GPs, consultants, research teams and CE, including dictation of clinical letters.
Provide support and advice to patients and their carers.
Ensure all patients are scheduled for appropriate procedures from new referrals and surveillance procedures.

Job responsibilities
Maintain accurate and up to date confidential and timely patient records ensuring that all patient documentation (both written and electronic) is in line with agreed Trust standards and NMC guidance.
Organise time effectively to ensure effective management of workload, prioritising work as necessary.
The post holder will monitor and review guidelines and protocols for this group of patients.
To contribute to the development, implementation and promotion of policies and guidelines for managing patients with other health care professionals, consistent with countywide objectives.
To document all care given using the Trust guidelines.
In collaboration with team secretary to maintain stocks of necessary equipment and escalate any shortfalls.
Maintain accurate nursing records in accordance with NMC guidelines.
To participate in the safe custody, checking and administration of drugs working within National and Local Drug administration Policies and Procedures.
