Are you ready to be part of the future? At QinetiQ, we’re not just imagining tomorrow; we are creating it. From cutting-edge defence technology to ground-breaking innovations, our mission is to empower and protect lives. Join us as a Mechanical Engineer at our Haslar site, where you will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology in partnership with some of the most brilliant minds.
The Role
As a Structural Engineer, you'll be responsible for the design and analysis of structural and non-structural components—from their initial concept through to final production. You'll work with other team members supporting the development of complex multi-material assemblies, including the design and analysis of bolted and bonded joints.
Day-to-day, you’ll combine subject matter expertise and sound engineering judgment to solve problems; breakdown complex tasks and then execute the planned schedule of work.
Your responsibilities will include:
* Work with the Engineering and Project Management community to undertake the work within the agreed quality, timescale, and budget.
* Use your skills and knowledge to develop capabilities in your areas of expertise; mentor others to improve their knowledge within the wider engineering and technical communities.
* Actively participate and collaborate with other functions (e.g., Safety Engineering) to deliver the technical programme of work.
* Give technical presentations and discuss your work at external forums, including conferences and customer meetings.
* Ensure projects are conducted safely, highlighting hazards and unsafe practices, and providing options to reduce risks.
* Apply governance consistently across projects; act as a peer reviewer when appropriate.
Essential experience of the Structural Engineer:
If you have experience with at least one of the following, you will be considered for this role:
* Finite Element Analysis of structures and systems.
* Experience with composite materials, design, and manufacturing.
* Experience in design and analysis of composite structures.
* Experience in analytical analysis of composite structures and failure modes.
* Knowledge of different composite manufacturing techniques.
* Proficiency in FEA software, ideally Abaqus.
* Proficiency in CAD software.
Essential qualifications:
We value diversity and do not have fixed requirements regarding background or education. If you can demonstrate the required experience and a willingness to learn, we would like to hear from you.
This role is 37 hours per week based at Haslar, with hybrid working patterns available.
