Role: Youth Mental Health Support Mentor Roles Location: Various locations within West Sussex area, Horsham, Crawley & Worthing. The ability to travel across the county as needed. Rate: £13/hour - £25/hour subject to experience Setting: Place of work could be in hospital settings, supported living units or the young person's own home. Hours: Flexible, shift patterns include between 5-12 hour day shifts with respective breaks around each child and young persons individual needs. We help support those young people who are at risk or who have already become chronically disengaged. Our network of Youth Mental Health Mentors come from many different backgrounds, Education, Healthcare or creative industries. You will be working 1:1 with the young person or alongside a Mental Health Support Worker. With the right training and awareness around trauma or complex mental health needs a good match gives every intervention the best chance of success. The role: Encourage & promote independence, social skills, and emotional development. Actively encourage young people to engage with a range of indoor and outdoor activities to build confidence, self-esteem and maximise learning development of new skills through alternative education to support sustainable outcomes. Collaborate closely with families and the teams managing the care of the young person. Daily log notes to be completed and shared with the relevant teams. Following care plans and familiarising yourself with the young person's profile and mental health assessment needs. Following & adhering to safety plans. Carrying out risk assessments of environments and activities to ensure safety, and communicating these with the relevant team members. Reporting of progress, behavioural presentation & Safeguarding concerns. Occasional attendance at multi-agency meetings. Who are we looking for: Patience, creativity, and flexibility in your approach to teaching & care. Love for new challenges. Enhance Child & Adult DBS. You will need to have consistent weekly availability to ensure stability in care. Must be willing to complete additional training if required to match up with an individual young person's needs. Desirable qualifications: Qualification in therapeutic discipline techniques within the last 12 months (counselling, mental health first aid, CBT for example). Evidence minimum of 1 year experience working with children or young people, teaching students with Special Educational Needs, Social, Emotional or Mental Health needs or other capacity (youth work, counselling or similar). Training in de-escalation techniques within last 12 months. Mandatory training from the last 12 months & Safeguarding qualification from last 12 months. Desirable skills: Intermediate IT skills. Specialist knowledge of learning disabilities and conditions such as ADHD, PDA, ASD. Awareness of National Curriculum and relevant key stages. Driving License and access to own vehicle.
