Job Description:
A secondary school in Derby is seeking a committed and adaptable General Cover Teacher to join their team on an ad-hoc basis. The role requires an enthusiastic individual who can step into various classrooms across multiple subjects when the regular teacher is absent, ensuring students stay engaged and continue their learning without disruption. This is an excellent opportunity for teachers who enjoy variety and are able to quickly adjust to new environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver pre-planned lessons: Effectively deliver lessons across different subjects in the absence of the regular teacher, ensuring that all activities are completed and students remain on task.
Classroom management: Maintain a calm and productive classroom environment, ensuring that students adhere to the school’s behavior expectations.
Student support: Provide guidance to students when necessary, offering additional help with tasks, and supporting students with differing learning needs.
Monitoring and reporting: Track students' progress during the lesson, ensure they remain engaged, and report any concerns or issues to the relevant department or head of year.
Supervision of activities: Manage any administrative tasks, including the supervision of tests, coursework, or group activities as required.
Flexibility: Be available to cover different subjects and age groups across the school as needed, sometimes on short notice.
Requirements:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent (preferred but not essential).
Experience in a secondary school setting, preferably with students aged 11-16.
Ability to teach across a range of subjects or experience in specific subjects such as English, Maths, Science, or Humanities.
Excellent classroom management skills, with the ability to maintain discipline and keep students focused.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to quickly build rapport with students and staff.
Flexibility and adaptability to work across various subjects and age groups.
Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to apply for one).
Desirable Skills:
Specialism in particular subjects is a bonus, but not a requirement.
Previous experience of general cover teaching is desirable.
Strong organizational skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
