Description
The Support and Integration Engineer role is responsible for identification and support of electrical systems issues resolution identified during all stages of the development lifecycle from rigs and lab cars through to in-market tests of production level vehicles and everything in between. This includes vehicle fault analysis through use of diagnostic toolsets, schematics and specifications, software flashing and validation, submission and updating of issues and concerns via cloud-based issues management system and verification and validation of solutions on rig or vehicles. This engineer will also be the first point of contact for the electrical team where issues are seen elsewhere in the business.
Key Responsibilities
* First on-the-scene support engineer for identifying and resolving electrical systems issues throughout the development lifecycle, from rig testing to in-market production vehicles.
* In conjunction with the Electrical and other function groups, Tier 1 suppliers and our technical partners, quickly and efficiently support issues investigation and resolution, and software and hardware upgrades both in the UK and overseas.
* Lead the analysis of vehicle faults using diagnostic software toolsets, schematics, and specifications to identify and resolve issues in both vehicle and lab-car environments.
* Submit and update fault reports via a cloud-based issue management system, raising concern reports for build-related system issues as necessary, and track issues through to resolution.
* Provide build support and maintenance for test vehicles, lab car and other test rigs e.g. infotainment, certification support rigs, fault injection, etc.
* Support additional verification and validation activities including in-market testing, certification activities planning and support (EMC testing, etc.), telematics, and systems calibration. Generation of test plans and reports.
* Provide technical support to colleagues in the Workshop and Vehicle Development teams.
* Assist with software verification and validation, ensuring adequate documentation and report generation.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential
* Track record of working as an expert electrical technician or electrical systems engineer within an automotive workshop or automotive OEM/Tier 1 environment.
* Ability to understand both basic system features and functions through to distributed functionality and complex electrical content.
* Good hands-on understanding of vehicle electrical networks and systems (CAN, LIN and discrete signalling). Specific training will be provided where necessary.
* Practical experience of using laptop-based vehicle diagnostic tools, i.e. Vector products, IPEtronik, PEAK, as well as Multimeters and Oscilloscopes.
* Must be able to work on their own initiative and prioritise their workload in conjunction with other team members and departments, as well as be able to work as part of the wider team.
* Flexible, enthusiastic and self-motivated with good communication skills.
* Driver's License is essential.
* Must enjoy working under pressure and be flexible with regards to working location and travel.
* Clear and effective communication skills with internal and external clients.
* Must be a team player and have a positive mentality when it comes to being part of a team and the benefits of working as a group.
Desirable
* At least HNC/HND or degree educated in an electrical/electronic/software discipline (other qualifications with relevant experience will be considered).
Miscellaneous:
* To perform any other duties that may well be reasonably expected within the remit of the role.
* To ensure compliance with the Health & Safety Policy requirements within areas of responsibility.
* In addition to the above responsibilities the job also involves similar duties to be conducted for any future subsidiary companies within the Gordon Murray Group.
