We require a Lead Telephonist to support the Switchboard Services Manager in the supervision of a team of approximately 30 Telephonists in providing an effective service that meets the standards and response times laid down within departmental procedures. The Lead Telephonist shall also be an integral part of the team in providing a call answering and response service, which operates 24/7.
Key requirements:
The successful applicant requires experience as a switchboard operator in a major hospital. Candidates must be able to work flexibly to cover the department's annual leave and sickness. This includes regular shift work.
You must have excellent communication skills, be flexible, willing to work as part of a team, and have the ability to work under pressure.

Switchboard Services Manager
Main duties of the job
To assist in managing the day-to-day operation of all switchboard services, providing the Trust and other healthcare establishments within the Sunderland area with a high-quality, effective, and efficient voice communications network.
This will include the monitoring of all equipment, reporting, and running analytics.
The post holder will be expected to work without direct supervision and exercise significant initiative and independent judgment in managing diverse specialties and workload.
The Supervisor has line-management responsibility for the Switchboard Operators.
Participates in an on-call rota to provide out of hours support and short notice shift cover.

Person Specification
Experience
* Relevant experience as a switchboard operator working within a major hospital.
* Previous supervisory experience.
Qualifications
* GCSE or equivalent Maths 4/C or above.
* GCSE or equivalent English 4/C or above.
* Basic IT skills including Microsoft applications.
Skills and Knowledge
* Overseeing a busy switchboard.
* Data inputting and maintaining various databases.
* Acquire cover for shifts due to sickness at short notice.
* On-call offering support to all Switchboard Operators.
* Issuing pagers and mobiles following Trust protocol.
* Experience in dealing with Managers and internal and external stakeholders.
* A good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
* A good understanding of the Trust's managerial structure.
