Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity in our Medical Employment team as a Medical Employment HR Advisor. This is a temporary post (fixed term or secondment) commencing from April 2025 until February 2026.
Working alongside the Assistant Medical Employment Manager, as part of the wider Operational HR team and in close collaboration with the Medical Workforce teams, you will play an integral role in supporting the delivery of HR activity associated with key HR initiatives for the Medical and Dental workforce.
You will liaise with a variety of colleagues internal and external to the Trust, to support the planning and delivery of various areas of employment and reward for Medical and Dental staff. You will support the development of the Medical Employment service, providing management and leadership within the team.
Through effective coaching and facilitation, you will provide HR advice and guidance on the full range of HR policies, practices and procedures ensuring compliance with employment legislation and relevant Medical and Dental Terms and Conditions of Service.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an experienced HR Advisor who has worked in an environment where they are the first point of contact for managers, providing professional, high quality advice and guidance around NHS Medical and Dental terms and conditions, to facilitate the early resolution of difficult, complex or sensitive employee relations issues, ensuring that employees are treated fairly and the risks associated with such cases are effectively managed.
In addition to providing a timely advisory service to managers, you will support the wider Operational HR Team on general operational issues such as Medical and Dental terms and conditions of service, family friendly policies, annual leave, flexible working, civility, respect and resolution cases.
You must be able to communicate effectively and confidently to a wide range of audiences. If you are self-motivated and are looking to expand your knowledge and to further your career within HR, this could be the role you have been waiting for!
The role can be based at York or Scarborough Hospital and we do have the ability to work remotely. There will be the requirement to attend face-to-face meetings at any of the Trust sites as required.
Please note: Interviews will be held Tuesday 8 April 2025 at York Hospital. This will comprise of an activity and an interview. This will be face to face.

Person specification
Experience
* Experience of supporting HR issues at an operational level
* Knowledge of employment legislation
* Developing audit processes
* Knowledge of HR issues and processes
* Knowledge and experience of Medical Staffing issues and processes
Qualification
* Educated to degree level or equivalent experience OR Experience of at least 2 years at an advisory level within a HR function with evidence of Continuing Professional Development OR at least 2 years’ experience of managing staff in a customer-focused environment, and able to demonstrate a person-centred management and leadership approach.
* Associate CIPD Qualification level 5 (equivalent to the former Graduate CIPD) and at least 6 months experience of working in a HR function.

* Ability to communicate effectively and confidently to a wide range of audiences
* Ability to use own initiative to interpret policies, procedures and situations in order to identify pragmatic solutions/ recommendations on a case-by-case basis.

DBS Checks
Please be aware that all new employees starting work with us will be charged for the cost of their DBS check if it is required for the role. The cost will be deducted from your salary either in 1 payment or over a six month period once you start employment. By applying you are agreeing to this undertaking. If you are successful you will be asked to confirm if you wish to pay in one amount or in instalments. The charges are currently £27.38 for a standard check and £55.38 for an enhanced check. The level of check will be determined by the post you are applying for.
