Job Overview/Introduction
We are seeking a Finance Assistant to support our finance function during this exciting period of expansion. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our financial processes, including maintaining the general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. As Squarcle transitions from a small to a medium-sized business, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the design and implementation of financial systems and controls, helping to shape a robust finance function that supports our continued growth.
Primary Roles and Responsibilities
* Maintain the general ledger, ensuring accurate and timely posting of financial transactions.
* Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, processing invoices and payments efficiently.
* Perform bank and key account reconciliations as part of the month-end process.
* Assist in the preparation and submission of VAT returns.
* Support the month-end close process, including accruals, prepayments, and journal entries.
* Assist in developing systems and controls to enhance financial processes as the company scales.
Secondary Roles and Responsibilities
* Support to wider team activities e.g. knowledge sessions, recruitment etc.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience (Essential)
* Previous experience in a similar finance role is preferred.
* AAT qualification (or working towards it) is desirable but not essential.
* Strong working knowledge of Xero (or a willingness to learn).
* A proactive, can-do attitude with the ability to work in a fast-paced, growing business.
* Excellent organisational skills and strong attention to detail.
* Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the wider finance team.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience (Desirable)
* Public Sector Knowledge: Experience or understanding of UK Government departments and their commercial processes, particularly the Ministry of Defence.
This role requires you to have lived in the UK for the last 5 years and obtain Security Check (SC) security clearance. Clearance must be obtained without any caveats that prevent you from carrying out the role you’ve been recruited for. If it isn’t obtained, or is obtained but with caveats that prevent you from carrying out the role, any conditional offer made to you will be withdrawn. Obtaining SC security clearance can be a lengthy process, and we reserve the right to withdraw any conditional offer made if the necessary security clearance isn’t obtained within 6 months.
