As part of the continued growth of Sky Blues in the Community (award winning and official charity of Coventry City Football Club), we are looking for a dedicated and experienced People and Governance Manager to join our Senior Management Team and lead both our HR operations and governance functions. We are seeking a strategic and hands-on HR and Governance Manager to join our team and play a key role in supporting the effective operation of the charity. This is a dual-focused role that combines the management of HR processes with ensuring strong governance practices are in place across the organisation. As part of the Senior Management Team, you will work closely with the Head of Community and Board of Trustees to achieve the charity’s organisational objectives while ensuring full compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
You will take responsibility for shaping and implementing our people strategy, overseeing recruitment, employee relations, workforce development, and performance management, while also leading our governance efforts, including liaising with trustees and ensuring compliance with the Charity Governance Code. This role is ideal for an individual who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and is passionate about creating an inclusive and supportive workplace culture.
Key Responsibilities
Human Resources Strategy and Operations
* Develop and implement HR processes aligned with our goals, ensuring compliance with all regulations
* Oversee workforce planning, performance management, recruitment, and talent development.
* Lead on employee relations, providing guidance on complex matters such as grievances and disciplinary actions.
* Foster a positive and inclusive culture in line with our Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) policies.
* Implement effective health and well-being initiatives for staff, supporting a healthy work environment.
Governance and Compliance
Oversee the governance processes, including Board meeting coordination, Trustee papers, and governance policies.
Manage the Code of Capability Operating Procedures (CCOP) and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
Provide regular HR, workforce, and compliance reports to senior leadership and trustees.
Employee Relations and Engagement
* Serve as a point of contact for all employee-related concerns, ensuring a fair and supportive approach to conflict resolution
* Develop strategies to improve employee engagement and create a cohesive team culture.
* Champion inclusive practices, both internally and externally, ensuring the charity meets its commitment to diversity and equality.
Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for a highly skilled, experienced, and proactive individual with:
* A CIPD Level 5 qualification (Level 7 desirable) or equivalent experience in HR management.
* A minimum of two years' experience in a similar HR or governance role, ideally within the third sector or a community-focused organization.
* Proven expertise in managing HR processes, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, and performance management.
* Strong knowledge of governance, compliance, and the legal frameworks surrounding charities and not-for-profits
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships at all levels.
* A commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
* A proactive and solution-focused approach to problem-solving.
