This is the perfect role for a skilled and experienced Finance Manager and / or Financial Controller who thrives in a hands-on role, operating as a No.2 in finance and managing the day-to-day accounts function. We read so much about rapid growth, progression and succession path-ways but what’s wrong with an accomplished accountant wanting to remain at FM/FC level?
The answer is nothing.
Joining a stable, well-established business, that has experience steady growth over their 40+ year tenure, l they are now looking for another “lifer” to join the finance team on a long-term basis. This SME prides itself on their staff retention, with the lowest term in the finance team being 3 years of service, it’s not a fast churn business, it’s one where people establish themselves and genuinely want to stay.
Meeting the FD at their office, I instantly thought, we always hear about “family-feel” but this really is that sort of environment. Everyone knew each other on a first name basis, there was a relaxed vibe and I must have been asked by about 3 people if I wanted a brew! Its epitomises “family-feel”.
On your role, this is a brand new position in the business created to free-up the Finance Director’s time for strategic projects. You’ll take over the day-to-day, overseeing a finance team of 2 ledger staff, who need very little people-management, and you’ll take on producing the management accounts pack with full commentary and variance analysis for review by the FD.
It’s a stress-free role, the processes are automated, the team knows exactly what they’re doing, and you have an FD at the helm who is dealing with all strategic work. It’s a role to come in, work your hours and go home knowing you’ve done an exceptional job, without the feeling of bringing work into home life. It’s all amount balance with this company, their ethos is that work and home should very much stay separate.
On your profile, we are looking for experienced FMs/FCs who have operated at a similar level within an SME environment, being that crucial bridge between the accounts department and the FD, used to managing the day-to-day. You’ll still be production full sets on MAs in this role, so you’ll need proven experience in full pack production to be considered, with analysis and commentary.
