Job summary
This role will involve preparation and food service for the staff Restaurant within the hospital including any dietary requirements, providing and receiving menu related information (including any menu changes), communicate dietary information to colleagues or restaurant customers as necessary.
Preparing and serving foods as detailed by way of menus and to comply with instruction on portion control, presentation and recording of information pertaining to the service as may be required by Trust Policy
Preparing/cooking for service times in the Staff Restaurant as required during scheduled and adaptive for busy periods.
Continuing to develop skills required for the preparation of food to deadlines including use of knife skills in butchering and filleting.
Assisting with training of Catering and Food Services Assistants. To provide technical advice and guideline to new starters. Also demonstrate own duties to less experienced staff.
Main duties of the job
You will be required to:
Provide general non clinical catering advice to customers.
Deal with customer queries and complaints as necessary.
Project a friendly and professional attitude to all customers using the services and to demonstrate product and facility knowledge when enquiries are made.
Ensure safe use of equipment by self and other catering staff and lift any kitchen equipment and food stuff as necessary. Report any faults and keep documented audit trail.
Maintain a clean and safe working environment at all times implementing a policy of 'clean as you go'.
Maintain the highest standards of personal hygiene, hygiene, cleanliness and maintenance within the facility as detailed within the Policies and procedures document.
Ensure all incidents of Accidents at Work, breaches of security, Pest Infestation, potential Health Risks and Abuse are reported using the procedures as detailed by Trust Policy.

Essential
1. NVQ Level 2 in Food Hygiene or equivalent experience
2. Good general education
3. Basic Health and Safety
4. Food Production Qualifications, City and Guilds 7061/12 / NVQ Level 2
Desirable
5. NVQ Level 3 Food Hygiene Certificate
6. NVQ Level 3 Supervision
7. Group Training Techniques Certificate.
Experience/Knowledge
Essential
8. Relevant experience of working in a similar food preparation environment
9. Experience of preparing, altering and costings menus
10. Experience of working within a team environment
11. Ability to manage a diverse environment focusing on patient/customer service
12. Previous experience in dealing with the public.
13. Knowledge of Hazard Analysis of Critical Control Point (HACCP) documentation for temperatures of food, fridge freezer, cleaning processes in the kitchen
