Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (ARI) - Clinical Perfusion Service
Hours: 37 hours per week
Salary: Band 7 (£48,788 - £56,747 per annum) / Band 7 (Annex 21)
Job Reference: CI208580
Aberdeen Royal Infirmary’s Clinical Perfusion department provides support to the North of Scotland Cardiothoracic service, inclusive of minimally invasive procedures, complex aortic surgery and Intra-aortic balloon pump therapy. In addition to the usual cardiac workload, the Perfusion department also provides support to a VV-ECMO service for respiratory failure; training initiatives for Intra-operative Cell Salvage (ICS) across three NHS Grampian sites; and teaching and education opportunities in collaboration with the University of Aberdeen (UoA).
Clinical Perfusion Scientists are responsible for managing technical aspects of the patients undergoing cardiac surgery, such as extracorporeal oxygenation, blood biochemistry and acid/base management strategies, blood conservation techniques, and specialised point of care testing such as ACT / Thromboelastography.
We are searching for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our existing team of Clinical Perfusion Scientists. Accredited applicants should be competent in a range of perfusion techniques used in adult cardiac surgery and be familiar with therapies such as intra-aortic balloon counter pulsation, intra-operative cell salvage and coagulation monitoring with thromboelastography.
Trainee applicants must have a BSc (hons) within a relevant life/biological sciences field for entry to the school of clinical perfusion sciences at the University of Bristol. Trainees will follow the Society of Clinical Perfusion Scientists of Great Britain and Ireland’s two-year training programme. This involves the successful attainment of an MSc in Clinical Perfusion science, while maintaining a professional clinical portfolio with onsite support and training at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Following on from this, trainees will be required to undertake the professional body’s practical and Viva Voce examination to gain accreditation status ready for autonomous clinical practice.
Should you wish any further information, please contact Mr. James Tyrrell, ACP, MBA - Clinical Perfusion Manager via email at james.tyrrell@nhs.scot.
