A unique opportunity to join our established group of permanent staff to make moments matter for the people who live at Ilford Park Polish Home (IPPH), Newton Abbot.� We are currently looking for full or part-time care assistants who are motivated to make a difference and promote people�s health, independence and well-being. In addition to a monthly salary, additional payments are made for hours worked at weekends and nights. Training is provided.
The successful candidate is required to have a D&BS clearance at enhanced level to include a check of the adults barred list.

Job description
IPPH is run by Defence Business Services (DBS), which is part of the Ministry of Defence (MoD). These civil service posts involve weekend and Bank Holiday working where rota�d, however additional payments are made for this. All staff at IPPH must adhere to the CQC�s Fundamental Standards in accordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008. The successful candidate will share with other staff in meeting the personal care needs of the residents in a way that respects the privacy and dignity of the individual.
8. You will assist people who live at Ilford Park Polish Home to maintain their activities of daily living by assisting with any personal and social care needs.
9. You will ensure the daily lived experience of people living with dementia is as positive as it can be by ensuring that the emotional needs of the people who live at Ilford Park are met and that they are involved in meaningful occupation.
10. To keep the people who lives at Ilford Park at the heart of all that you do and promote the mental and physical activity through discussion, outings and sharing with them in meaningful occupation.
11. To participate in the key-worker scheme of the home and complete monthly key-worker reports, including the use of memory boxes and life story work.�
Responsibilities
12. To respect and support the Polish culture of our residents, and if able to translate and write letters for residents;
13. To support people who live at Ilford Park who have mobility and other physical difficulties, including incontinence, and to help in the use and care of aids and personal equipment;
14. To supplement the work of housekeeping and other staff where necessary to maintain the continuity of care essential to maintain a homely atmosphere. �Light duties to include, clearing and vacuuming of dining rooms and cleaning and clearing up of spills;
15. To make and change beds, tidy bedrooms, emptying commodes, ensuring that laundry is put away tidily and that all clothing and bedding is sent to the laundry in a way that makes it easily identifiable;
16. To answer all calls promptly, greet visitors and answer the telephone in a polite manner;
17. To promote positive end of life care;
18. To read and write reports, take part in staff meetings, residents meetings and training activities and ensure a thorough verbal handover with colleagues, and managers where appropriate;
19. Where training has been received and staff are competent to do so, to assist the Duty Manager in the administration of medication;
20. To drive residents (where a full driving licence is held) to medical appointments in the absence of the home�s Driver, where appropriate;
21. To perform such other duties as may reasonably be required.
Person specification
Previous experience in a residential environment and a Certificate in Health and Social Care at Level 2 is desirable, but training will be provided.� Candidates will be expected to demonstrate their ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing and the ability to communicate in Polish would be desirable.

Alongside your salary of �22,011, Ministry of Defence contributes �6,376 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.

The post does not offer relocation expenses.

External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
