An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Legal Team for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Legal Support Officer.
This new, part-time, fixed-term role is to provide administrative support to the Lead Legal Specialist and to provide legal assistance to Council Officers and Members. The purpose of the role is to ensure that Council staff and Members receive legal advice in relation to their work and ensure that accurate records are kept up to date.
You will play an essential role in the legal department, by providing excellent organisational skills. To succeed in the role, you will need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to ensure you to work with a variety of stakeholders within the Council and externally.
You will need to be able to demonstrate excellent time management skills as you will need to balance the demands of a very busy workload.
Assist with internal and external enquiries, either written, email, face-to-face or telephone using empathy and judgement and taking appropriate action whilst dealing with potentially complex and sensitive data as appropriate.
You will provide administrative support to the Legal team ensuring that records are kept up to date and legal deadlines are complied with.
You will provide guidance to staff on legal issues and procedure in relation to their role and support the Lead Legal Specialist in their role as Monitoring Officer.
Work within the procedural guidelines.
Ensure deadlines are met and take appropriate action to make sure that work is competed to given timescales (sometimes at short notice).
You will draft documents and provide some legal advice to staff.
You should have an attention to detail, accuracy and be able to work with all levels of staff including Councillors.
Maintaining confidentiality at all times and making file notes for legal purposes whilst managing and resolving enquires that are made to the Legal team.
You will be required to work both in the office and remotely to meet the needs of the team.
