Reporting to the Ganger/supervisor, the role involves assisting in providing a first-class service to our customers, completing a high standard of maintenance to the highway network, and helping to ensure that all maintenance activities are delivered in accordance with the strategies and policies of the County Council and Essex Highways.
Customer skills are required to maintain the highest standards within the team. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills will be necessary to ensure that all matters are dealt with in a courteous and helpful manner and customers are made fully aware of the service and standards the Council is able to deliver.
The Role
1. Pothole repair and carriageway defect reinstatements.
2. Carriageway and footway patching and construction.
3. Drainage works, including laying pipes, resetting ironwork and gully/access chamber construction.
4. Kerbing works.
5. Installation of road signs and other small civil works.
6. Soft estate maintenance works (e.g. grass cutting, strimming, etc).
7. Traffic Management operations.
8. The post holder will be required to participate in out-of-hours winter maintenance and emergency response activities on a rota basis, which will sometimes involve working unsociable hours, weekends, and public holidays.
9. Other Ad Hoc duties to fulfill the requirement of the role.
Minimum Requirements
* A current, valid driving licence is essential, with LGV Class 2 entitlement highly desirable.
* New Roads and Streetworks or NHSS 12 training and qualifications would be highly beneficial.
* Experience in the use of handheld technology (PDAs, Smartphones, etc.) would be advantageous but not essential. Local knowledge of the county would be beneficial.
