Cranleigh School seeks to appoint, for September 2025, a dynamic honours graduate to join a flourishing and enthusiastic department to teach Classics from years 9 to 13. The successful candidate will ideally teach Latin and Classical Civilisation at GCSE and A level. The ability to teach Greek would be an advantage but is not required. This post will suit someone of energy and intellect who is prepared to play a full role in the life of this busy and friendly boarding school.
Cranleigh is a leading fully co-educational independent boarding and day Senior School comprising around 700 girls and boys ages 13 – 18. There is also a Preparatory School nearby.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable professional who can effectively communicate their passion for Classics, bringing good humour and subject knowledge with them. The successful candidate will have an excellent understanding of and a genuine enthusiasm for Classics and will likely hold a good honours degree in Classics or a related subject. They will be self-motivated and relish the challenge presented by being part of a successful, forward-thinking Department. A commitment to students, the department and the broader life of the School, plus a firm grasp of curricular developments, are essential, as is empathy, being well-organised, a sense of humour and the ability to enhance the department’s delivery and development of the curriculum.
The successful candidate will be expected to get involved in all aspects of this busy boarding school, which typically includes one evening duty per week and being a Tutor to a group of students, usually within a Boarding House. All teachers are expected to contribute to the School’s co-curricular programme and co-curricular activities alongside their academic responsibilities.
