The aim of our CPR Smart programme for schools is to educate and support School CPR Champions to deliver CPR education to secondary and primary school pupils. Champions are teachers and sixth formers and the objective of the programme is to reach out to as many schools as possible within the Essex and Hertfordshire regions. School CPR Champions are offered specific insights from our team into how to perform CPR, alleviating any barriers to the delivery of training. CPR became part of the National Curriculum for all schools in England (and the devolved administrations) in 2020. It has been recognised that even though teachers are enthusiastic about the concept of delivering a programme, there are common questions and fears that arise, that when addressed, can help boost confidence and increase authenticity of the teaching. This has been described in the peer reviewed medical literature. Our pilot programme in 2023/2024 reinforced the results of previous studies, and provided insights into the opportunities for the future.
