A fantastic opportunity has become available to join the Stoma Care team at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced nurse with a keen interest in colorectal surgery and stoma care.
This role is both challenging and rewarding, requiring a proactive, self-driven, and dedicated individual who can effectively manage complex care pathways. Your goal will be to ensure the highest standards of care and service delivery for all patients. Strong communication skills, the ability to manage a diverse workload, and excellent problem-solving capabilities are essential. We are seeking a team player who can also work independently when required.
This is a fixed-term contract for 15 months, with ongoing efforts to secure an extension for an additional 24 months. You will receive training and support from the Band 7 Stoma Care Nurse Specialist.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will support the Stoma Care Service by delivering expert stoma nursing care and providing an advisory service. They will be responsible for assessing, implementing, and evaluating care plans for patients requiring stoma formation. With a hands-on, proactive approach, the post holder will work independently to deliver education, information, advice, and support to patients both pre-operatively and post-operatively. Additionally, they will play a key role in supervising nursing staff in clinical areas to ensure the highest standards of patient care.
The role also includes participation in teaching sessions, audit projects, and service development activities in collaboration with the Stoma Care CNS, ensuring the practice remains professional, research-informed, and evidence-based.
The successful candidate must be committed to ongoing professional development to maintain competency in fulfilling the role. Opportunities will be provided to enhance clinical skills and expand academic knowledge.

Person Specification
Education/Qualifications
* BSc Adult Nursing or equivalent.
Desirable
* Foundation Course in Stoma Care.
* Post-registration courses such as Stoma/Colorectal at level 6/7.
Knowledge
* Understanding and demonstration of the Trust Values.
Skills/Abilities
* Good written & verbal communications skills in the English language.
* Ability to plan, prioritise and manage a caseload, in a time effective manner.
* Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
Experience
* Minimum of 2 years post registration experience.
* Experience in an acute surgical/colorectal setting.
* Experience of caring for people with stomas.
* Experience of leadership and management.
Knowledge
* Sound knowledge of stoma care and bowel/bladder conditions.
* Knowledge of health promotion and the importance of raising awareness.
