Rebellion is the home of 2000 AD and the Treasury of British Comics – the world’s largest archive of British comics and British popular culture publishing. Our collection includes comics, pulp magazines, original comic artwork, board games and much more.
We are seeking an Archivist to lead the day-to-day management of our Publishing archive, including the cataloguing, preservation and promotion of the archive in all formats, both physical and digital. This is an incredible opportunity to work with a significant cultural collection, and to realise its potential as a working archive.
Reporting directly to the Archive Manager, you will be part of a small team of Archivists who manage the wider collections of the Rebellion Group, including those of our videogame, film and TV companies.
This role is based at our riverside headquarters in Oxford, offering a creative and relaxed atmosphere where teamwork drives our success. The nature of this role requires onsite working, with some flexibility to work remotely up to one day per week.
Responsibilities:
* Catalogue the Publishing archive according to International Standard for Archival Description ISAD(G).
* Work closely alongside and support the Editorial, Reprographics and Design teams, for whom the archive is a working asset.
* Process new acquisitions to the archive, from both external and internal sources.
* Ensure the physical care of the archive, including oversight of a conservation and repackaging programme.
* Assist in Disaster Plan preparation and training.
* Promote the archive both internally and externally, including assisting in the preparation of museum exhibitions of our comic collections.
* Undertake any other duties required to assist the Archive Manager.
Requirements
* Postgraduate qualification in Archives Administration, or equivalent experience, recognised by the Archives and Records Association (ARA).
* Demonstrable experience of cataloguing to International Standard for Archival Description ISAD(G).
* Demonstrable experience of the sorting, arrangement, preservation and packaging of archive collections.
* Knowledge of copyright and intellectual property legislation.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Excellent IT skills, including experience of Microsoft Office and archive cataloguing software.
* Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
* An interest in comics, publishing and historical popular culture is desirable.
* Experience in delivering marketing and promotion of archival collections, both internally and externally.
