The successful candidate will be an autonomous practitioner, taking responsibility for the provision of care throughout the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods for women and babies in the hospital/community setting.
You will be responsible for the assessment, planning, and implementation of care to both high and low-risk women in your care. You will support, supervise, and teach staff/students evidence-based client-centered care, which is of a high standard, being responsible for ensuring that all care is delivered according to Trust policies and procedures and maintaining associated records of care.
Our Midwives have a passionate philosophy for promoting individualized and high standards of care and birth experiences for all women accessing our Maternity Service. The Eden Suite Birth Centre consists of five birthing rooms, two with en-suite birthing pools. In addition, a further birthing pool within the Delivery Suite provides individualized, holistic care to high-risk women along with a further eight delivery rooms. We have a standalone community birth centre staffed by the Highfield Team, concentrating on services in the community setting and home births.
We continue to work towards the national agenda for maternity care. Our midwifery staffing comprises inpatient, community, and continuity midwives.
Main duties of the job
* Communication and working relationships will be with team members, other teams, women and their families, and other health professionals.
* Actively support women and their families through communicating difficult and complex information using a variety of methods to ensure effective understanding.
* Responsible for supporting and counselling women who are pregnant, explaining choices they have in midwifery care.
* Proactively support women who require specialist investigations to monitor the health of their baby, including the provision of antenatal screening advice and counselling.
* Ensure effective communication is maintained between members of the multi-disciplinary team to enable appropriate individuals to be aware of changes to women and families' plan of care.
* Ensure information is conveyed to women in a timely and understanding manner using different communication methods to clarify understanding.
* Plan care for women, managing workload that will include antenatal and postnatal clinics and home visiting options, home birth, and births in the obstetric and midwifery-led units.

If successful in this role, there is a requirement for you to have a standard/enhanced DBS. This will be paid for by the Trust and then deducted from your salary over a period of 3 months.
As this vacancy is within the division of Women and Children's, there is a mandatory requirement for successful applicants to join the DBS update service. The cost of joining the update service is £16 per year, and applicants are liable to cover this cost with no reimbursement from the Trust. Further details of how to join the update service will be provided upon appointment.

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training
* Registered Midwife currently on the NMC register with relevant Diploma/Degree.
* At least one year post-registration experience.
