Within the Safety Case discipline, our client is recruiting for a Junior Safety Case Consultant to support their clients as part of a team in projects of new build, decommissioning, or ongoing operational facilities in providing safety cases and associated assessments. To ensure work is delivered to a high standard, timely, and to the programme agreed.
Role and Responsibilities
As a Junior Safety Case Consultant, you will be involved in a variety of specialist tasks. This could include:
1. Delivering consultancy that meets and exceeds the expectations of the client regarding technical excellence, the quality of deliverables, timescales, and cost, in a way that supports the long-term growth of the business and its reputation.
2. Being an active contributor in the safety cases and assessments for high hazard category facilities/plants and modifications.
3. Production of all major elements of safety cases, in particular fault analysis and the identification and specification of safety systems.
4. Developing and presenting robust and reasoned arguments in a rational and coherent manner.
5. Participating in the integrated design process and interfacing with engineers and human factors specialists.
6. Being part of the governance process, such as responding to client, peer review, and safety committee comments.
7. Attendance at meetings with more senior colleagues and interaction with the client.
8. Identifying opportunities with clients and supporting, mentoring, coaching, and helping graduates to develop within the business.
Preferred Role Requirements
The Safety Case team encourages diversity of thought and welcomes applications from candidates with transferable skills that can be applied to nuclear decommissioning projects. Therefore, there are no minimum role requirements, and candidates will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. The preferred role requirements are as follows:
1. BSc/MSc or BEng/MEng in engineering, science, or a related field of study (preferably with a specialization in nuclear).
2. Willingness to obtain a security clearance.
3. Minimum of 2 years professional engineering/technical specialist experience.
4. Basic understanding of the safety case production process and methodologies.
5. Familiarity with areas such as decommissioning, optioneering, best practices, human factors, radioactive materials transport, licensing, and radioactive waste.
